Mr. James Stuby, owner of recent startup Stuby Subsurface Investigations, LLC, will be giving a presentation on geophysical methods for exploration of the shallow subsurface.  Prior to starting his own business, Mr. Stuby worked as a geophysicist for 22 years and gained a great breadth of knowledge.

He will discuss a range of geophysical methods that can be used to inform decisions regarding engineering and environmental projects, including:

  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR)
  • Magnetic and electromagnetic methods
  • Electrical resistivity
  • Seismic refraction and other seismic methods and
  • Spontaneous potential.

No method is a "silver bullet" and the limitations of each will be discussed.  Time will be reserved for Q&A at the end.
